lol it's not for a lack of trying! every time i go (regardless of the time of day), there is always a line that circles the outside of the cinema several times around - people waiting with pre-orders to see the film... i can't even get in, let alone buy a ticket... it's nuts!
but i definitely wanna see it in the theaters cuz dvds just don't do films justice. they're still great and all, but it's a much different experience.
is there anyone worth noting in Arlington Road? just out of curiosity... i'll try to see it regardless

Arlington Road? umm i think it had Tim Robbins and Jeff Bridges..........umm i cant remember, but maybe (and im not totally certain), but i think Joan Cusack played one of their wives...the plot is reminiscent of Disturbia....guy suspects their neighbour is up to no good. but i wont spoil it for u.....its NOT that similar to Disturbia, but slightly reminiscent of it..(well to me anyways)....
people r still queuing for Dark Knight....here, the crowds hav died down.....i mean, its a good movie yes...but to be the No.2 movie of ALL time, i dont know. It cant beat Titanic - id be so pissed if it did...Titanic totally outshines this.in every way. Titanic was epic - this to me, is still just a super hero movie....i dont see why people r wetting themselves over it. tho its still a fun movie, and dude, you HAVE to catch it in the cinemas....its a part of movie history....catch it, even if u hav to wait for it to come out at the dollar theatres!

i don't want to sound insensitive, but it's obvious why this film is the blockbuster it has become... Heath Ledger's death if he hadn't died, it wouldn't have earned half the money it has sure, any Batman film is gonna do well fiscally. but if you think that's the whole and only reason this film is as big as it is, you're lying to yourself.
i'm one of what i am assuming is a VERY small percentage of people: i want to see this film NOT because of Batman OR Heath Ledger (the two reasons everyone goes to see it), i want to see it merely because the preview made it look really cool

well dude, im the same, i wouldve watched it in the cinemas not coz of Heath, not coz of the hype, just coz its a fun summer action movie...and no better movie to watch in the cinemas that something with explosions, guns and car chases!!!!! And no, u dont sound insensitive dude, coz its the truth - people are going for the curiousity factor, coz of his death, its the truth!!
and is it just me, but do u find horror movies NOT that fun to watch in a cinema...i dont know why, but a horror movie to me, is best watched at home, on the sofa all comfy and stuff. It just doesnt seem 'scary' out in the open, in a crowd of 100s....not the same. Its maybe more scary watching it all alone....
to me, a cinema movie is always a big, effects driven, blockbuster type, and nothing else...

TDK - I think there is only a small majority going because of Heath's death, but this movie had so much internet chatter way before that event it was always going to be big. Granted it probably would not have had a massive opening like it did but I think it would have been a word of mouth film that would have kicked ass in the long run anyway.
Horror movies at the cinema; ah. I never see them there, mostly because pretty much all of them end up going "straight to dvd'' here in Australia. Some big remake ones have recently, but I would never see them there anyway; horror does not deserve the $13.50 ticket price in my book, there is never enough of a great cinematic story to make me want to pay that much money. They are all the same, killer on the loose, dumb ass teenager's who are played by 35 year olds, lots of blood and gore for shock and a very predictable plot.
The other reason I will not go; The one film I did see was Freddy Vs Jason - and I had a stupid asshole in a few seats in front of me ooohoing and ahhhhing every time he saw a tit or a little ass. I felt like jumping over the seats and kicking his ass.

lol yea, it's even worse when you get a group of like fifty teens in there screaming through the whole movie... if they find the crap in theaters today scary, they'd probably die if they watched something truly good like The Shining then again, it's the in-your-face shocks and sudden-loud-noises of today's horror genre that get them screaming. things were more subtle and creepy before...
btw, has anyone else seen "The Mist".... i don't even want to get into how bad that movie was - i'm just curious who else suffered through it like me

hey dude, i did see "The Mist" and all the cgi monsters apart - i thought it was a very good movie...suprisingly......the ending, now that was like a punch in the stomach!!! This is the sorta ending a horror movie should have...something that remains with u, and resonates....sorta like FUnny Games....
i did find the monsters a lil too CGI and a little too man-in-a-rubber-suit'ish!!! but it was one of the better movies....!!
Last horror i saw in the cinemas? umm prob Prom Night...yea...not exactly a classic....but the dvd wasnt out yet, and i just couldnt wait ..(haha yea, i know, i suck, i was excited for it!)..
and no, smaller gory horror movies NEVER make it to the cinemas here...except for one in the history of our cinemas here...the movie was called Shallow Ground!!! Its so f**king ironic, that of all movies came out in the cinemas!!!!!!!! it was like fate calling me to Rocky....but apart from that.....the cinemas have NEVER showed a truly proper horror movie in the same vein!

aw man... the preacher woman? that was such a lousy character. she was depicted the way i would expect a third-grader to portray someone. and she was only the worst... i thought ALL the characters in that movie were REEEEEALLY poorly portrayed. it was just extremeties, as if there's no fence-sitting in life. where were the real real characters? the ones we are supposed to be able to relate with.. or even believe? and then there's the fact that they're all stupid beyond belief (like those in another *cough* fantastic movie, "The Ruins"). and then the ending.... don't even get me started on the ending... shame the army didn't show up just two seconds later - then the guy would've killed himself too and that whole annoying group would be dead honestly, it was one of the ten worst films i have ever seen in my life. but i guess we all have our opinions. mine: Stephen King needs to stop. right now. immediately.

lol i was hoping i could avoid getting into how much i despised the film but you forced me into it man... i couldn't stand idly by and let people think that piece of garbage is worth the rental fee i respect people's opinions man, but how in the world could you have enjoyed that???

Agree; I also did not like "The Mist" and I picked the ending so easily. And yeah the Preacher woman character, terrible character.
I don't know what it is but Steven King films, they never translate from Novel to Film well, bar a few. I've only ones I ever liked "Needful Things and The Shawshank Redemption."

GRRR to all of you GRRRRRRR Dude, there are worse movies out there than the Mist *ahem*i wont name any, but a few come to mind *ahem* - well to each his own i guess....how can u not admit that ending felt like a punch in the gut.........
i mean for a PG13 horror - even that was kinda harsh....by PG13 standards i mean....
Even The Ruins wasnt that bad - it wasnt scary, gory, and sick enuf for me, but dude, it was entertaining, and NOT boring. Thats all i look for in movies sometime....just some fun when i kick back on the sofa on the weekends with a bag of Cheetos!!!!!!
Now if u want BAD horror, BAD in the true sense of BAD - "April Fools Day" (the 2008 remake)....now that was bad, when the original was SOO much better, with a twist i didnt see coming a mile away...oh, remake was shit beyond belief....failed miserably!

i agree.. i don't look for brilliance, i just want entertainment but The Ruins did not entertain me... in fact, it pissed me off lol if the characters were anything but braindead, they wouldn't have done half the stuff they did in the film and it was driving me nuts with each passing scene besides, it was just a terrible film in my opinion. (and i don't like when they end the film with another group of doomed people entering the same situation and thus restarting the film...) let's just say, when the credits began and Ben Stiller's name rolled onto my screen, i wasn't surprised in the least.
btw Nightflyer, if you're interested, please check out my new film people are saying it's the best to date!

Ben Stillers name ? In the Ruins? are u sure??? huh?? wtf? i didnt notice that.....! oh PEOPLE, amazing news...MIRRORS is f**king showing in the cinemas here next week, OMG....FINALLY some proper horror to watch in the cinemas..and yea, yea, i know i posted somewhere earlier that horror is not meant for cinema viewing....but i dont give a f**k, this is an Aja movie, my fave director currently...!!!! So im there (plus its my birthday next week, and its premiering ON MY BIRTHDAY!), so it would be an awesome gift! Its R(A) so im gonna be SOO bummed theyre gonna censor the shit outta this....here, our cinemas dont allow sex or extreme violence (idont know why they even bother releasing it in cinemas then!) i just hope im not dissapointed.... i remember watching Saw IV in cinemas, and the opening scenes where they slice open Jigsaws head to extract and weigh his brain....they cut that entire 5min sequence to bout 30seconds, i was so f**king pissed!!!!!!!!! Such a f**king waste... Now im pretty worried "Mirrors' will be heavily censored beyond recognition id be so f**king pissed
