the problem with remakes is that... if the film was terrible to begin with, why re-create crap? and if the film was excellent to begin with, why tarnish it?

nah, i love remakes...i watch em all....even 'supposed' crap ones like When a stranger calls, Prom Night, April Fools Day, Shutter etc etc....I enjoy em....what can i say. NOTHING beats a lazy sunday afternoon like a good horror-movie, and a bag of frito-lays. I watch the original, the remakes, sequels, prequels, everything....i cant get enough of movies....unless they are cartoons, animation, or comedies (i know i said i liked SOME comedies....but i only watch like one or two a year.....compared to one or two horror movies a week!!!!) I should keep a list of what movies i watch - bet ive watched bout 100 this year But when yr on the treadmill - a good movie just makes the time pass by so much quicker....so yea, its all worth it!

yeah man, i totally agree. nothing better than lying down and watching a horror film, good or bad, smart or stupid... i don't necessarily like all these films, but they're fun anyway.
btw, have you seen "The Descent"? that's one of my favourite horror films ever! i was a bit disappointed cuz i thought it was a ghost movie when i saw the previews way back when, then it turned out to be monsters, but i just love the feel of it. plus, the ending was one of my favourites ever! i just loved how it was shot... excellent directing!

yea, the Descent was cool - but totally totally hard to watch.....i dont do claustraphobic scenes well, and the parts crawling in the tight caves REALLY got to me, i cant handle that. I can take blood/gore/gross'ness but not tight spaces....freaks me out like so bad. Have u seen Turistas...the underwater cave sequences, also really got to me SOOO bad...eeeeeeeeeeeek *breathes slowly*
which 'ending' of the descent are u talking bout...the UK ending or the US ending. I think u US guys got the clean/hollywood/sanitised ending...I saw the UK version...... So which one r u referring to mate??

i don't know which one is which, but i'm referring to the one where she thinks she's escaped and then she wakes up back in the caves and sees her daughter... that was honestly one of my favourite endings ever! i just loved how it was shot and the twist. it was just extremely well-done in my opinion. and that shot of the ghost beside her in the SUV scared the hell out of me cuz i wasn't expecting it at all lol

ok, i remember the US version had a happier ending - the UK one was the one where she thought she escaped but was back in the caves....i dont remember her seeing her daughter tho?? hmmmm but me thinks u got the UK version - u saw it on dvd right? not in the cinemas? coz im sure if u saw it in the cinemas u wouldve got the US version. Dont know why they went with a happy ending for the US cut....guess u US people cant handle non-tradional endings in movies!!!!!

lol yea i heard about the two different endings, but i saw the UK one i think
even though it's darker and everything, it's a much better ending with her waking up back in the caves. i know everyone loves a happy ending, and so do i, but "The Descent" managed to pull it off so well, you won't mind how dark it may be

besides, most of my favourite movies are film-noirs... not because i prefer dark, unhappy endings, but because a director who has the cojones to do it tends to also pull it off quite well think of Tarantino films or any of the Coen brothers' movies... all classics and many of them film-noirs.

A few non traditional Hollywood ending that were good.
Best ending I have seen is in a film "Arlington Road" not a Hollywood ending in the slightest; but brilliant. (Non horror)
"Dead Silence" First time I have been totally surprised at an ending (Another puppet film - but really good story, acting and twist at the end.)
Decent: I saw the wake up back in the cave ending, and as much as I preferred it I found it unoriginal.

im so anti-noir....i just dont 'get' them to be honest....so its hard to appreciate something i dont 'get' - just dont hate me for that! just stating an opinion.
yea, Arlington Road was cool - a very unexpected ending......totally totally didnt expect that....see...thats a movie that has 'balls'....
I hav Dead Silence on dvd, but for the life of me, cant remember the ending......! I remember dolls on a shelf being burnt....and umm the rest has escaped me. I had HIGH expectations for that movie, coz of James Wan, but i was kinda dissapointed.......he still cant top Final Destination.
The Descent2 is coming out next year i think.......wonder if its gonna be a sucky-sequel or go the route of 28Weeks Later and be actually quite good....

yeah it wasn't all that original, but i just liked how well it was edited.. really good job imo
aw man... i hope they don't make a sequel... "The Descent" is one of the few horror movies I actually thought was well made, and now they're gonna go ruin it on me? granted, a sequel doesn't change how good the original was, but it'll tarnish it's image in my mind... if they do make it, i sure hope it's good...

and i haven't seen Arlington Road yet... guess I'll have to find that one - you guys have me really intrigued If you get a chance it's defiantly worth it. Great flick. Your right about some sequels tarnishing the original; the biggest one for me was ... "The Crow" Brandon Lee was phenomenal in that role, and what a film. Alex Proyas is an awesome director. Then they decided lets do a sequel, another and then another. They got worse the further they went, Number 4 was so bad that when I took over my new Video Store I sold off all the copies. Hated it with a passion; lol. And to top it off, they did a series, which re-wrote the original movie (Spitting on the Brandon Lee film), re-shot and changed the rules. Very unhappy when I saw that, even though I liked the actor who took over the Brandon Lee character. Bad Film makers.

rockyfan17...yea, u hav to watch arlington road...tho we prob hav said too much already..... i liked the opening action-sequence as well, if u can call it that....u know the pre-credit opening... i saw it like ages ago, it came out late 90s i think.....i remember those days....i was still watching movies on Laser Disc...hahah that seems so LONG ago , but it wasnt really! I only ever saw the first Crow....not the sequels or the series...and i watched it just for the Brandon Lee curiousity factor, which explains why the Dark Knight is as huge as it is..... and rockyfan17 like i said...u better get off yr ass and watch Dark Knight, coz yr prob the only dude in the Western hemisphere who hasnt see it yet lolz
