Plot: Four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband. Main Stars: Anna Paquin, Bryan Cox, Dylan Baker and Jean-Luc Bilodeau IMDB User Rating: 8.8/10 My Thoughts: It's been a long time since a horror film has come along that I actual loved and would have preferred to see in a cinema. Trick 'R Treat was an extremely clever film, with a brilliant script, impressive acting and a good old school feel Horror Flick. First time Director Michael Dougherty has managed to bring back the true meaning of horror films - none of this stupid deranged madmen walking around killing naked teenagers. His subtle connections between stories was superb, and paid off at the end brilliantly. His characters have depth and are given ample screen time to develop them - unlike some directors who leave you not caring for characters. Even the minor characters who do not have as much screen time are developed believably. The death scenes were what one would expect from a horror film, and although not as gruesome as say a Hostel film, they are very well done. The acting from all was impressive with standouts: Brian Cox as Mr Greek, the grouchy old man who hates Halloween, Dylan Baker as the father with a secret side job and of course Anna Paquin as beautiful and brilliant as ever. Jean-Luc Bilodeau from Kyle XY was a good addition and it was good to see him other than Josh. Funny though his characters name was Schrader which was to similar to Trager and felt a little Kyle XYish... All around good flick and I think Michael Dougherty is going to go on to be the next David Fincher. www.imdb.com/title/tt0862856/

lucky you.....a lot of good horror movies out in the cinemas lately (ie. Hallowee2, Final Dest 4, Orphan etc etc), but its been a while since a good horror came out on dvd to watch at home. This seems like the most decent one to hit dvd of late, tho ill prob hav to wait a few more weeks for it. I cant wait tho - ur review made it seem pretty good, so im stoked for it.
Been catching up on older horror movies (late 70s, early 80s) lately coz no good new ones out on DVD recently......but ive seen most of the ones I 'should' be watching. I dont wanna waste time on horror movies ill regret watching.
Have you seen the trailer for 'Paranormal Activity'? NOW THAT IS A MOVIE! I cant wait for that!

ok, just watched Trick r Treat....oh man, i was sorely sorely dissapointed by this. Good thing i didnt have high expectations, but even with my low expectations, i was still dissapointed.
Firstly, it reminded me of an episode of "Are you afraid of the dark?"...and i can see why it went straight to dvd. Its such a kids movie.....very targetted at teens and younger kids...its like an 'intro-to-horror' for the new fans....
Too many kids and humour in this....id say a 2 outta 10 for me....yes, im harsh, but it was really a poor attempt at a potentially good movie!

i was just re-reading your review Night.....with all due respect, i still cant beleive u thought of it so highly...seriously, outta all the stories, i think the Jean Luc story (the one with the kids in the bus) was the only one remotely 'creepy'....and was my fave of the bunch. Oh, and the opening death sequence was cool....reminded me of how good the Scream movies did their opening sequences....
The worst story to me was prob the Dylan Baker one....coz it was played too tongue-in-cheek, and comedic.
*spoiler alert* And when that kid in the sack-pumpkin-mask revealed what he looked like....aggrgh , major dissapointment...CGI rubber faced monster mess....I hate it when they do that! Just added to my already-dissapointment in this movie!
*2nd spoiler alert* Night, since yr the only one here who has seen it...u know the old guy that Anna Paquin devours....is he Dylan Baker? (my brother said it was, but i dont think so!)...and if it wasnt him, then there wasnt any closure in Dylan Bakers story right??....so i guess it had to be him, coz if not....then they left that story open....

....and now I have closure. How did I not notice that that!
Now midway thru Homecoming, which is like teen-Misery.....broken ankle and all!!

ummm if u hav read my reviews....dont get TOO excited...it was sorta a let down for me. But still, a decent movie.....it wasnt BAD, i just expected more from it. I heard its gonna be a franchise now.....and me being the sucker for horror movies that I am, im probably gonna watch the sequels too! and Milla...why not save this movie for October 31st Itll make perfect Halloween evening viewing Unless yr gonna actually be out on that nite 'trick or treating' yourself If so, what are u dressing up as this year? (we dont celebrate it here so ill be missing out on all the fun)
