“Life as…”
I felt his presence long before I saw it over a rock; and with fear inside I quickly darted over towards the longest vines I could find. You see it had been a way of life for as long as I could remember; like being in a playground; a new bully moves in and takes over the turf. This was my case, a new bully had entered my world and once again I was on the same track of running for my life.
Concealed in the large vines the bully looked all around; one thankful thing though, was that this new bully had lost an eye in one of his own previous supremacy struggles. So this left him only vision from his right side, and luckily for me the vines veered the opposite way. This would only protect me for so long though; eventually he would turn his head my way to catch a glimpse of me, and when that came it would be, hasta lavista baby.
I felt the apprehension building in me, so after a few seconds I made a dash for it. I darted past the vines and came across a cave just a few meters up from where I was. The cave was not a big one, but thankfully I was able to fit in easily enough, and once there the fear I felt seemed to dive a little. Once there I moved forward, trying to get as far down in the cave as possible, though after a moment of, well, little courage, I circled back to look out of the opening.
This bully was not going to give up on me and with my own existence in jeopardy; I was determined to make a stand. I looked out of the opening, waiting for the bully to travel by the opening, and within thirty seconds of waiting, I was not disappointed. I saw the bully glide by, ever so tranquil. On his mission to find me, it didn’t even blink its one good eye, all the time concentrating all his efforts on locating me.
I waited their contemplating my next, well I should say first move, since I hadn’t made a first move, unless you count running and seeking refuge in a cave a first move. I think we’ll count that, that way I’m onto my second move, which sounds cool. My second move is………
O.K., so after ten minutes of brainstorming I still haven’t come up with a, second move, god that sucks. A few suggestions came to mind, and then I thought about how scrawny I was and realized I needed to be bigger and stronger to pull them of, so those ideas left as quick as they came. The bully was still moving somewhere out in the distance and unfortunately due to my so-called ‘second move planning’, I had lost a sight of him. “Oh crap.”
With no visual sight of the bully, I slowly nudged forward and slightly looked out from the edge of the caves entrance. Cautiously looking both ways I could see nothing, not the bully, not even the vines, which I had sought protection in previously. They had somehow vanished, like the bully had torn through them on his quest to find me.
After looking all around I finally saw something out in the distance, at first I could not make it out, but after a few moments it became apparent. The bully had spotted me, and he was making his way in my direction. I froze momentarily and after a while realized the speed at which he was traveling; not only was he going fast, he was flooring it. He most desperately wanted me, and in a moment of forethought, I quickly moved forward enough to keep his attention. Once there I turned my self and high-tailed it back to the caves entrance, and thankfully the bully continued on my tail, not slowing for an instance.
The moment I hit the caves opening I flew in and spun around to see the bully come full throttle towards the opening, and with stupidity of which I thought he’d have, he simply plowed into the opening. Unfortunately for him the opening was ok, but it narrowed inside and became too small, and with his force on approach he lodged himself just inside the opening; wedging himself stuck.
A big’ol smile came across my face as I looked into the eye of the bully. ‘That’ll teach ya to mess with me’ went through my mind as I simply watched him forcefully trying to move forwards to get at me. After a few thrusts of movement he simply gave up, realizing that he was well and truly stuck in the position that would eventually kill him.
I span around and swam of to find the back entrance and after a few thrusts I realized. ‘Oh shit, this is a cave, there is no back entrance.’ I swam back to the opening, which was now sealed from top to bottom by the newest member to the tank; there the Oscar simply smirked himself, and all I could do was stay there, stuck inside the crummy cave. “God, life as a damn aquarium fish sucks.”
The End…
