It's really a double-edged sword. The ultimate goal is to get people to see the film. That essentially relies on marketing, in all its various forms. Marketing can be a "dirty word" but it includes what we are doing right now, talking about the film. If people are turned off by the name, or puzzled or confused by it, and others think it means something it does not, you may end up having people not see it who would otherwise see it and/or people who would see it who would otherwise not see it. The bottom line is that it wouldn't reach the audience it should. So on the one hand, having a title that will bring people in who will enjoy the movie is essential. On the other hand, if the movie has already been seen by a lot of people (as at film festivals), and been reviewed and written about and had people talking about it, you could lose the momentum. Everyone who has heard about the film would have to be "informed" of the new name. Ultimately, that's partly our responsibility -- the fans. Its websites like this one which partly play a big role in helping to "spread the word."

firstly Milla, that is one HOT photo of you there - the new black and white one!!! Our resident model-girl sure has one hell of a portfolio! and yea, Larry...i totally agree with what your saying. But, why change the name Bondage...well, granted, people havent really heard of it much, so it wont lose that much word of mouth or momentum (ive yet to read it Entertainment Weekly)...but still i like the title..ive grown used to it...and it would start people talking, just on the title alone.. so dude, any news on the new title yet? I was thinking 'Boy, Interrupted'...get it? hehehe

I was thinking 'Boy, Interrupted'...get it? hehehe That's part of the problem. People don't like feeling manipulated. Especially since the audience that the film is really aimed at, teens+, are the first to smell a rat. If they think that the name was being used to "draw them in," it would turn good will into bad. At the least, the title needs to reflect the content, and for what it's worth most people's reaction to the title "Bondage" has not been what the film is about. It's deceptive, basically. It's just a fact of life that the film's producers need to earn back their investment, at the very least, which means people have to go see the film. And the distributors who are going to put the film out there won't sign a deal if they don't think they can market it, or if they think a better title will accomplish that to a greater extent. It happens all the time, really. The bottom line is that we want people to go out and see it, and if a different title gets more people in to the theaters, then it would be wrong not to do it. Just my thoughts, of course. I'm not speaking for the filmmakers.

Larry, you speak like your such a movie-industry person....wow....your so wise Andy Dick...hmmm...don't get me started. We went to the screening of his latest "film" at the SXSW Film Festival (the same day as Michael's world premiere -- this was that night). I generally don't like saying anything negative about anyone, but the night was a train wreck. The film was awful, and to make matters worse. he came out afterwards for the Q&A with the cast and he was completely trashed. He had sat behind us during the screening, and seemed okay, but at some point he left and came back at the end. We figure he must have gone out to pop some pills or drink something, because in a relatively short period of time he got bombed. He was almost unintelligible and made a fool out of himself. He grabbed one of the other cast members, threw her to the floor, and started humping her. There was a guy in a wheelchair, and he went off on a tirade against handicapped people. He insulted the guy and offered to take him out into the street and battle it out with him. Nobody stopped him because he was the director and star of the film, but you could see that the other cast members were visibly embarassed and humiliated and just wanted to get off the stage. It was an abomination. Afterwards, they had to literally carry him out of the building and he staggered across the street into a bar, shouting epithets at the guy in the wheelchair the whole way over there. Ironically, the film was about an actor/director who is an alcoholoc, then gets sober and makes a film, and then goes off the wagon and gets bombed during the making of the film. It was very surreal. P.S. I'd better start sounding more like a fan! I don't want to come off as a wise industry person.
