thanks rocky - wow, and i was planning to only take a 2 week break to the States (if i ever do manage to work the trip out) and then i just realised most of that would be on travelling time!! dude, ok, i was planning to go visit all the 'major' touristy sites, u know, Disneyland (hehe), Statue of Liberty, Universal Studios, etc, but definitely, i would love to hit all the major cities like Chicago, LA and of course New York! I just saw this movie on Manhattan (the movie was called Little Manhattan) and it looks like such an awesome city to explore. I would so love to explore all the little towns of America as well dude, man, seriously a month would not be enuf!! And dude, realistically, i think ill probably make it to Aussie or Europe before i ever get to go to the US, but definitely, ill make it there one day! Oh yea, forgot, i have to go to Hollywood as well, see the famous Hollywood sign, the Walk of Fame, all those spots....man! im getting all excited now!! Rocky, so asia not on your travel list yet?

Ok.... My advice!
Fly into New York City. Spend a couple days there just exploring. Then fly out to Chicago...
this city is beautiful and amazing! Spend a couple days there. Then, rent a car or take the Amtrack into Michigan. Go into Grand Rapids. From here you should rent a car. It is very easy to drive in Michigan. Drive the car up to Mackinac Island. It is about a 4 hours drive north. That way you can see American towns. Michigan is a beautiful state. Once to get to Mackinac, get a hotel for the night and the next morning take the fairy boat out to the island. They don't allow cars so you will be cool not driving... the boat takes you. When you get on the Island rent a bike and ride it around the island. This is my favorite place in America! It is like you step back in time. And the fudge they make on the island is amazing.
The next morning after you spend the day on Mackinaw, drive the car back down to Grand Rapids and spend the day there. It is a fun city... if you get bored.... drive over to Grand Haven or Muskegon or Holland... nice beach towns. Stay away from Detroit area, basically the east side of the state. The next day fly out of Grand Rapids to LA. Once you get in LA ... settle here for a while. From LA you can go to Las Vegas in 3 1/2 hours... San Fransisco in 5 hours , Santa Barbara in 1 hour, Arizona in 5 hours... San Diego in 2 hours, head to MEXICO! ... two hours away... you need at least a week here. Then just fly out of LA!
Two weeks can be done. Just need someone to tell you where to go.
If you do that.. you will see plenty of America. But you have to do CHICAGO and Mackinac Island!

Anyone know of anything good to do in LA? My friends and I are clueless as to what we can do there. We were hoping someone who has actually been there could tell us all the goodies.

aww rocky, u da man! I love how youve been such a big big help in all of this. I just came back from a travel fair in town, and can you beleive noone is doing US tour group packages here. Ok, i prefer traveliing in a tour group, coz i dont really know anyone in the US, and it would be kinda frightening going round this huge, foreign country all on my own without knowing where to go, what to do, where to stay etc. They advised me to book a package group tour from Singapore, which has the best ones in the region, so its like i have to fly 2hrs to singapore from here, then take that 20odd hour flight to the US. Hmm my travel time just increased! Dude, ill take your word for it, those places seem c ool! I just hope they are part of whichever package i choose. And ill be on the net later to check out the package options! OOoh cant wait, just hope i can fly out in August. Another thing worrying me, is the whole immigration thing - heard US customs can be pretty tough on people coming in from asia, even tho on holiday packages. Just not looking forward to that -heard horror stories which frighten me! And dude, like u said, to rent a car...its strange, coz u guys drive on the other side of the road there, so that would take a while to get used to!!!!!!!! That home made fudge sounds so tempting right now Rocky...and dude, i thought i knew the US well, but ive still not heard of Mackinac Island. And thanks for recommending your home town of Mexico. hehe im not too sure bout that, the thought of Mexico always scared me, i think been watching too many movies which potray mexico as not a nice town. but i think its just the wrong kinda movies ive been watching. Id love to go - i always imagined it to be like completely different to the whole America 'proper'. Im also gotta consider how much this whole thing is gonna cost me, like the plane ticket isnt enuf of a headache, i gotta factor in costs for transport, accomodation, food and of course shopping! so its gonna be a lot for me. And i wish i could visit all the small towns and stuff, all those really nice quaint places, which im sure will not be on the tour itinerary, but dude, if i plan a 2 week trip there is just so much i can see in that short time. but thanks again rocky for the help. you sure are a great ambassador for the US And dont worry, ive written all your notes down, so i wont forget all the cool places you said i should visit you da' man
